Greta Bruns, age 103, of Decorah, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home with Rev. Allen Vik presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Monona, Iowa. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home. Greta Dorothy (Mueller) Bruns was born the youngest of eleven children, on November 1, 1908, the daughter of George Frederick William and Alvina Maria Caroline (Wilke) Mueller at Clayton Center, Iowa. She attended country school and married Wilbert William Bruns on December 27, 1933 at the Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. They lived on a farm southwest of Monona and they had two children: Virgil William and Mildred Lavonne. After Wilbert died in 1942, Greta moved her young family to Monona, where she worked as a food server and at a dry cleaner, along with doing other odd jobs. She eventually moved to a farm east of Decorah, where she farmed and worked at Wapsie Produce for twenty years. Greta is survived by her son: Virgil Bruns, Decorah, IA. Eight grandchildren: Jason (Anngel) Bruns, Jeremy Bruns, James Bruns, Beverly (Daryl) Davis, Barbara (David) Riley, Phyllis (Robert) Bittinger, Daniel (Shelly Tunwall) Herman, and Karen (Dan) Sass, along with fifteen great grandchildren. Greta was preceded in death by her parents: George Frederick William and Alvina Maria Caroline (Wilke) Mueller. Her husband: Wilbert William Bruns in 1942. Her daughter: Mildred Herman in 2007. Six sisters: Emma Hanelick, Louis Darman, Alma Leuchenmacker, Alvina Londt, Sophia Wacker and Amanda Dennler. Four brothers: Helmuth, William, Arnold and Henry Mueller.
