Gregory "Bud" Rothmeyer

Gregory “Bud” Rothmeyer, age 82, of Festina, Iowa died on Friday, November 4, 2005 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin following a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Heineman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be full military rites at the graveside. Friends may call on Monday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa and also on Tuesday morning until 10:00 a.m. There will be a scripture service at 4:00 p.m. and a rosary at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday afternoon. Gregory Herbert “Bud” Rothmeyer was born on July 13, 1923 the son of Henry and Christine (Spalla) Rothmeyer in Festina, Iowa. Bud attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina. He served in the US Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Bud married Marilyn Bushman on June 17, 1947 at St. Francis – DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. Bud drove a truck all of his working years, first starting with a portable feed mill, then for Livestock Transport in Ossian and then for Calmar Redi-Mix, retiring in 1988. Bud was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and the Halverson – Giesen American Legion Post #266, Calmar, IA. Bud enjoyed antiques, fishing, hunting, gardening, mowing the lawn and he especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bud’s survivors include two sons: Gary (Connie) Rothmeyer, Ossian, IA and Mike (Lynn) Rothmeyer, Lake Pryor, MN. Eight daughters: Janice (Larry) Lensch, Gilbert, AZ; Bonnie (Loren) Wenthold, Decorah, IA; Pat (Richard) Phillips, Muscatine, IA; Eileen (Jim) Blong, Calmar, IA; Dawn Severson, Calmar, IA, Eleane Hageman, Clermont, IA, Marcia (Kenny) Lembke, Decorah, IA and Paula (David) Strand, Decorah, IA. Thirty grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Two sisters: Nora Jennings, Austin, MN and Evelyn Wenthold, Ossian, IA. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson: Korey Rothmeyer; four brothers: Frank, Henry, Charlie and Mike Rothmeyer.
