December 12, 1956 — April 17, 2005

Greg “Woody” Karnik, age 48 of Fort Atkinson, Iowa died Sunday April 17, 2005 at his home of cancer. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2005 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa with Rev. John Moser and Rev. George Karnik officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night. Gregory Matthew “Woody” Karnik was born on December 12, 1956 the son of Anthony “Tony” and Rita (Perry) Karnik in New Hampton, Iowa. Woody attended and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1975 and in 1976 from Area One in Calmar as a bricklayer. Woody laid brick for a short time, worked at Sarah Lee in New Hampton and then with Myers Brothers Construction in Fort Atkinson. In 1984, he helped start “Woody’s Bar” in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. Greg worked for Lynch Livestock in Waucoma, Iowa as a member of the BBQ Team, until his illness. Woody enjoyed carpentry and gardening. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Greg’s survivors include his mother: Rita Karnik, Madisonville, KY. One sister: Anne Karnik-Johnson, Fairbanks, AK. One brother: John Karnik & wife Karen, Alpha, IA. Three nephews: Kevin Karnik, Fredericksburg, IA & Brian Karnik, Cedar Rapids, IA and Ben Johnson, Lexington, KY. Several Aunts & Uncles: Angela Fencl, Lawler, IA; Rev. George Karnik, Elk Run Heights, IA; Rev. Frank Perry, Dubuque, IA; Marie Merck & husband Maynard, Cedar Rapids, IA; Flora McMullen & husband Pat, Florida; Matthew Perry & wife Sharon, Libertyville, IL and Helen Karnik, Arizona and numerous cousins. Greg was preceded in death by his father: Anthony Karnik on January 26, 1965; brother: Paul Karnik December 12, 2004; Uncles & Aunt: Leonard Karnik; Charles Karnik; Clarence “Chick” Karnik; Raymond Karnik; Marcella Lynch; Leo Perry in infancy; Robert “Bob” Perry and Jerome Perry.
