Grace Steele

     Grace Steele, age 95, of Decorah died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA.      Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2015 at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church 1316 Canoe Ridge Rd. Decorah, IA. with Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson presiding, burial will be in the Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.      Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA and after 10:00 at the church on Friday.       Grace Odela (Ramsey) Steele was born on April 14, 1920, on the family farm in Glenwood Township, to Gilbert and Olga (Quam) Ramsey. Grace was baptized and confirmed at the Glenwood Lutheran Church and attended rural country school in Glenwood Township. Grace was united in marriage to Lester Steele on July 13, 1935, at the Lutheran Parsonage. Together they farmed and raised their family. Grace worked for Mabe’s Pizza, Wapsie Produce, and also operated a wallpapering and cake making business with her daughter, Donna. She went to work for Anthony’s Clothing Store in Decorah, working in the fabric department until she retired in 1986. Grace enjoyed doing ceramics, cooking, fishing and camping, but above all, she loved to ‘shop’. Grace was a former member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church and then later the First Lutheran Church when they lived in Decorah.       Grace is survived by her children: Lyle Steele, Evansdale, IA, and Ed (Rita) Steele, Winona, MN. Son-in-law: Leo Nagel, Decorah, Iowa. Nine grandchildren: Larry (Kelly) Steele, Danny Steele, Joey Steele, Mike Steele, Susie (Kevin) Matthias, Linda (Brian) Dinger, Tammy (Kevin) Ihde, Randy (Shannon) Nagel, Scott (Kim) Steele and Matt (Shari) Steele, along with nineteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Sister-in-law: LaVerne Ramsey of Decorah, IA, and several nieces and nephews.       Grace was preceded in death by her parents: Gilbert and Olga (Quam) Ramsey. Her husband: Lester Steele on April 26, 1995. Her daughter: Donna Nagel on December 15, 2012. Daughter-in-law: Helen “Shorty” Steele. Two sisters: Doris (Erick) Styve and Gertrude (Raymond) Steele. Two brothers: Raymond Ramsey and Norman (Susie) Ramsey.
