Grace Peterson

Grace Peterson, age 92, of Decorah, IA, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral service for Grace and Advent services with Holy Communion will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, December 5, 2021, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, 3147 Middle Hesper Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Nancy Solomonson presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Hauge Lutheran Church on Sunday morning. Memorials in Grace's honor may be made out to- Hauge Lutheran Church or Cemetery and Aase Haugen Senior Services. Grace Doris Peterson was born on January 30, 1929, the daughter of Hazel Milburn Sivesind and Paul “Olaf” Sivesind in Waukon, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Grace worked as bookkeeper for Peterson Sales & Service, later as bookkeeper for her husband’s business Bob’s Sinclair and Peterson Oil Company; also, as a Transcription Secretary at Winneshiek Medical Center. Grace was very active in her church, Hauge Lutheran or rural Decorah. She held many offices over the years; Grace and Robert were lifetime members of Hauge; they truly loved their little Norwegian church and fellow church family members. Grace was a quiet, gentle lady that always had her beautiful smile ready to greet you and ever eager to lend a helping hand if there was a need. She was known for being an excellent cook and making the “Best” Rommergrut! Another talent Grace had was a god given gift of a beautiful singing voice, which she shared as a soloist on many occasions. Grace is survived by her grandsons: Justin and Trey Peterson. Sisters-in-law: Rose Peterson and Lorraine Peterson. Brothers-in-law: Pastor O. Paul Hougen and Bill Lynch along with many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Peterson in 2013. Parents: Olaf and Hazel Sivesind. Two Sons: Lauren and Donnie Peterson. Sister: Constance Lynch. Brother: Earl (Sonny) Sivesind. Father and mother-in-law: John Sr. and Lenora (Danielson) Peterson. Sisters-in-law: Lucille Peterson, Dorothy Peterson, Lucella Bender, Doris Bender, and Helen Hougen. Brothers-in-law: Ervin Peterson, Vrigil Bender, Walter Bender, Charles Peterson, and John Peterson Jr.
