Grace L. Mcintosh

Grace L. McIntosh, age 92, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church with Rev. Kim Smith officiating. Burial will be prior to the memorial service at Phelps Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the memorial service. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah. Grace Lucille (Sphar) McIntosh was born on February 25, 1916, the daughter of William Burdell and Clara (Timmerman) Sphar in Castalia, Iowa. Grace was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Castalia. Grace attended Castalia school and high school. Grace married Chester McIntosh on October 4, 1934 at the Methodist parsonage in Castalia, Iowa. Together Grace and Chester farmed in Glenwood Township from 1940 -1968, when they retired and moved into Decorah. In Grace’s retirement years, she enjoyed doing volunteer work and various hobbies. Grace was a member of the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, ladies circle and WELCA. In 2001, Grace moved to Wellington Place. Grace’s survivors include her two sons: Howard (Judy) McIntosh, Decorah, IA and Duane (Judy) McIntosh, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Judy (Jerry) Nagel, Preston, MN. Ten grandchildren: Norman McIntosh, Decorah, IA; Vicky Borseth & special friend, Dave Ohlert, Decorah, IA; Deb & Rusty Hagensick, Castalia, IA; John McIntosh, Decorah, IA; Randy & Renae McIntosh, Decorah, IA; Russell & Tina McIntosh, Decorah, IA; Rick McIntosh, Alvarado, TX; Jim & Cheryl Nagel, Preston, MN; John Nagel, Burlington, WI and Jeff Nagel & special friend, LeaEtta Jarland, Harmony, MN. Twenty-one great grandchildren: Darcie Abbott & fiancé Chris Hughes; Russell & Elisheva Abbott; Rob Abbott; Darren & Amy Borseth; Tyler & Martina McIntosh; Allison McIntosh; Amanda McIntosh & fiancé Keith Schwartzhoff; Breanna McIntosh, Tanner, Benji, & Justin McIntosh; David & Deneen Nagel; Michele, Katie, Justin & Nick Nagel, Bailey & Kensey Nagel. Two step-great grandchildren: Devin & Kelsie Hagensick. Three great great grandchildren: Evan John Nagel and Levi and Liat Abbott. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents: W.B. and Clara Sphar. Her husband: Chester on December 7, 1987. One brother: Clifford (Gladys) Sphar on July 29, 1976.
