Gordon Danielson

Gordon Danielson, age 80, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Friday, July 18, 2008, at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa, following a long illness. The family request that memorials be given to Winneshiek County Hospice for a Hospice Room at Wellington Place. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Hauge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. O. Paul Hougen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Monday morning. Gordon Lester Danielson was born on March 7, 1928, on the family farm north of Decorah to Peter and Nora (Corson) Danielson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hauge Lutheran Church and attended country school and graduated from Decorah High School. Gordon farmed the family farm for many years, until he retired in 1980. He married Mary Flatland on October 29, 1950 at the Lincoln Lutheran Church, rural Ridgeway, Iowa. She passed away in 1971. On July 16, 1973, he married Colleen McKernan at Goodview, MN. After retiring from farming Gordon worked various jobs in Decorah. He enjoyed his family, traveling, fishing, and woodworking. Gordon’s survivors include his wife: Colleen Danielson, Decorah, Two daughters: Jennifer Little of Hesper, IA. Barbara (Tom) Knetter, Fond du Lac, WI. One son: Timothy (Vickie) Danielson, Monument, CO. Four step daughters: Roberta Burdick, Hokah, MN; Janice Abramson, Winona, MN; Julie (Dan) Rose, Muscatine, IA; and Barbara Iverson, Winona, MN. Two step sons; William (Jo) Iverson Decorah, IA and Joseph (Veronica) Iverson, West Salem, WI. Daughter-in-law: Ann Sullivan, Coralville, IA. Nineteen grandchildren: Naomi Thoman, Anne Knetter, Keely, Alanna, Mary, and Sam Danielson, Taran Dufault, Eleni Riggs, Shane, Leif, Tess, Brandon, Nicole, Justin and Jacob Iverson,Brady Abramson, Colton Rose, Lech and Caitlin Literski. Two great grandchildren: Eva Dufault and Lauren Abramson. Two sisters: Harriet Toras, Chicago, IL and Geraldine Cook, Webster City, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Danielson, Swea City, IA Harriet Danielson, Ridgeway, IA and Mildred Danielson, Burr Oak. One brother-in-law: Norlan Lee, Fridley, MN. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents: Peter and Nora Danielson. His first wife: Mary in 1971. One son: Matthew Danielson. Step-son: Jack Iverson. Son-in-law: Don Little. Daughter-in-law: Kristi Danielson. Three brothers: Norine, Roger and Roland Danielson. Four sisters: Loretta Henning, Palma Buck, Edith Griebel and Olive Lee. One sister-in-law: Clarissa Danielson. Five brothers-in-law: Ed Henning, Woodrow Buck, Johnny Toras, Carl Griebel and Ronnie Cook.
