Gladys J. Carolan

Gladys Carolan, age 89, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, February 18, 2008, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Monday morning at the funeral home. Gladys Julia (Einck) Carolan was born on July 17, 1918, the daughter of Clem and Agatha (Heck) Einck in Ossian, Iowa. Gladys attended Winneshiek County schools. She married John L. Carolan on October 11, 1939, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. To this union, three children were born: Sheryl, Jackie and Gary. Gladys was homemaker and a housekeeper for many Decorah residents. Gladys and John moved to Decorah in the 60’s. Gladys was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Gladys’ survivors include her daughter: Sheryl Hayes, Milan, MO. and son: Gary (Janice) Carolan, Noblesville, IN. Daughter-in-law: Cleo Carolan, Decorah, IA. Eight grandchildren: John Carolan, Jason (Shelly) Carolan, Jared (Wendy) Carolan, Joe Bohr, David (Jodi) Bohr, Gayle Hayes, Todd (Melissa) Carolan, Troy (Jennifer) Carolan and Joleen (Matt) Nierling. Fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents. Her husband: John in 2001. On son: John “Jackie” Carolan in 1998. One grandson: Lyle Bohr in 2002. Two brothers: Clem Einck and Eddie Einck. Three sisters: Virginia Gesing, Bertha Remke and Clara Mae Pankow.
