Gary Headington

Gary Headington, Sr., age 65, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Friday, June 18, 2010, at his home in Decorah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery, Decorah, IA. Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, in Decorah. Gary David Headington was born on January 25, 1945, the son of Arthur and Claribel (Gjere) Headington on the family farm, near Decorah, Iowa. Gary attended rural country school in Canoe Township and then graduated from Decorah High School in 1963. While during high school, Gary worked at Knobbe’s Hardware Store and did custom combining for area farmers. He then went to work for Big Bear and drove a milk truck for the Decorah Creamery and later Wisconsin Dairies for twenty-three years. Gary married Marie Falck on March 23, 1973 in Caledonia, MN. Gary also worked for Thermogas and Cennex and for the last five years at Northern Engraving. Gary was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and the Fox and Coon Club. Gary enjoyed tinkering, fishing, gardening, going to auctions, and above all he loved his grandchildren. Gary is survived by his mother: Claribel Headington, Decorah, IA. His wife: Marie Headington, Decorah, IA. Two children: Gary Headington, Jr., Ossian, IA, and Paulette Headington, Ossian, IA. Seven grandchildren: Taylr Gilman, Shea Headington, Samantha Headington, Amber Headington, Ariel Olson, Mercedes Olson and Dalton Headington. One brother: Curt (Sharon) Headington, Mt. Vernon, IA. One nephew: Jahn (Sandy) Headington. One niece: Amy Headington. One great nephew: Erik Headington. Gary is also survived by three brothers-in-law: Phillip Falck, McDonald, PA; Willie (Holly) Falck, Decorah, IA; and Steve (Terry) Falck, Decorah, IA. Four sisters-in-law: Suzanne (Brett) Willey, Castalia, IA; Rebecca (Phil) Heying, Decorah, IA; Inga (Jodi) Martin, Prairie du Chien, WI; and Irene Falck, Decorah, IA; along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his father: Arthur Headington in 1972 and his brother: Lester “Corky” Headington in 1996. His father and mother-in-law: Harry and Nellie Falck. Two brothers-in-law: Henry and Harold Falck.
