Gary Hayek

Gary Hayek, age 64, of Ottumwa, IA Formerly of Ft. Atkinson, IA died Friday at his home. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at 207 Church St. Spillville, IA with Father Robert Gross presiding. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the Balik Funeral Home at 211 South Main in Spillville with a rosary at 5:00 and scripture service at 7:00 there will also be visitation after 10:00 at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Gary Hayek Memorial Fund P.O. Box 172 Fort Atkinson, Iowa 52144. Gary Raymond Hayek was born June 11, 1951 to Raymond and Sylvia (Frana) Hayek at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, IA Gary attended St. Wenceslaus School and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1969 He then went to Rochester Community College in Rochester, MN. For one year then graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in History. Gary then taught and coached at Grinnell High School in Grinnell IA for five years he then took a job with Dr. Scholl’s in Houston TX for a few years. He then became a crop insurance adjuster for Farm Bureau Insurance, a job he has held to date. Gary was a extreme history buff he also liked to collect coins and stamps and many other things, Gary was active in his high school sports even holding scoring records for a number of years he also played on the Fort Atkinson, Baseball Team and followed the Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Gary was active in the Catholic Church. and was a Fourth Degree Knight’s of Columbus. Gary is survived by his mother: Sylvia Hayek, Ft, Atkinson, IA Two brothers: Allen (Mary) Hayek, Ronald (Julie) Hayek. Sister: Arlene (Charles) Lynch all of Ft. Atkinson, IA. his nieces and nephews: Philip Hayek, Jackson Hayek, Jonathan Hayek, Jennifer (Hayek) Lennahan, Alexandra (Hayek) Albertson and Dominic Hayek. Gary was preceded in death by his father: Raymond Hayek, on April 24, 1981. And his Fiancé: Roberta Acree.
