Gary Haugen

Gary Dean Haugen, age 73, passed away at his home in Salisbury, Missouri on July 9, 2022. Gary was born in Decorah on January 27, 1949, the son of Clayton and Helen Haugen. He graduated from Decorah High School. He worked with his father at the Gust E. Haugen Garage for over 17 years. He was an avid golfer. He won multiple Oneota Club Championships and many more tournaments throughout Northeast Iowa. After leaving Decorah he was a greenskeeper at the Pelican Bay Golf and Country Club in Daytona Beach, Florida and the Stonecreek, Desert Mountain, and TPC Scottsdale golf courses in Arizona. Eating at different diners was a fun outing for Gary and he kept a record of his most delicious ones. He always had a dog as a pet. In his later years, one of his favorite pastimes was taking his dog for a walk. Gary is survived by his brother Jan (Sharon) Haugen of Ames and sister Beth (Bob) Halverson of Urbandale. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private celebration of Gary’s life will be held by the family at a later date.
