Gary Eckhardt

Gary Eckhardt, age 79, of West Union, IA, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, IA. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Holy Name Catholic Church – 128 N. Walnut St. in West Union with Rev. Ralph Davis presiding. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday morning at the church. Gary was born at home in Davis Junction, IL on December 7, 1944, to William C. Eckhardt and Pauline Matthews Eckhardt. Gary graduated from Rochelle Township High School. Following High School, Gary became an electrician. Gary started working as an electrician at CamCar in Rockford, IL. After his time there, Gary took a job with Atwood factory in West Union, IA. He worked there for many years until his retirement. Gary worked multiple jobs with Jack Barloon on the side. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Norma Eckhardt, West Union, IA. Children: Mike (Erin) Eckhardt and Michelle (Todd) Dorn. Stepchildren: Paula Prescott and Terry Goza. Grandchildren: Lakin Eckhardt, Dylan Eckhardt, Heather Eckhardt, Nicholas Dorn, Ben (Joanna Moncuse) Dorn. Step grandchildren: Colton Goza and Landon Goza. Brother: Terry Eckhardt. Family pet: Sophie. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. Siblings: Rita Hackett, Wayne Eckhardt, Larry Eckhardt, and Bill Eckhardt.
