Fern Larsen

Fern Larsen, age 88, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, June 29, 2012, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, in Decorah, IA. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m.,Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Russell Cemetery, rural Decorah, IA, with Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. Fern Ione (Dybvik) Larsen was born on August 6, 1923, the daughter of Julius and Alta (Nobles) Dybvik near Kendallville, IA. Fern attended rural country school and helped on the family farm. She married Duane Larsen and they had one son, Toby. They lived near Rochester, MN, before moving to Decorah in 1972. Fern enjoyed living on the farm, where she loved her chickens, Schipperke dogs, riding her horses, feeding the birds and going to auctions. Fern is survived by her son: Toby (friend, Connie Hanson) Larsen, Decorah, IA. Four grandsons: Ivan (Amy) Larsen, Clayton (friend, Mariah) Larsen, Calvin (Christina) Larsen, and Nolan Larsen. Five great grandchildren: Jacob, Shane and Wyatt Larsen, Tristan & Aubrey Larsen. Fern is also survived by her special dog, Misty, along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Fern was preceded in death by her parents: Julius and Alta (Nobles) Dybvik. Her husband: Duane Larsen on Dec. 29, 1987. Her sister: Gladys (Jim) Knox. Her brother: Alvin (Laura) Dybvik.
