Evelyn G. Gillem

Evelyn Gillem, age 89, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Monday, September 17, 2007, at her home, following a lingering illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2007, at St. John’s Catholic Church, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday and Friday morning until 10:00 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Evelyn’s survivors include her sisters: Rita Shindelar, Good Samaritan Nursing Center, West Union, IA: Mary Baker, Ft. Atkinson, IA: Ruth Hansel, Ft. Atkinson, IA; and Dorothy Smith, Cresco, IA. Three brothers: Fred Rosenbaum, Waucoma, IA; George Rosenbaum, Mason City, IA and Gilbert (Carmalita) Rosenbaum, New Hampton, IA. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents: Mathilda and Louie Rosenbaum. Her husband: Ray Gillem on Sept. 19, 1996. One sister: Carmella Holtey in 2001. Five brothers-in-law: Ralph “Bud” Holtey in 1966; Stanley Smith in 1968; Don Hansel in 1999; Michael Baker in 1999; and Dan Shindelar in 2004. One sister-in-law: LaVonne Rosenbaum. One niece: Georgia Rosenbaum in infancy. Two nephews: Gerald Rosenbaum in 1968 and Larry Shindelar in 1976.
