Eunice T. Kirkeby, age 93, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Hauge Lutheran Church with Rev. Gene Hermeier officiating. Burial will be in the Hauge Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 on Tuesday the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning. Eunice Theresa (Narveson) Kirkeby was born on April 4, 1914, the daughter of Theodore and Ellen (Erickson) Narveson on the family farm, rural Decorah, Iowa. Eunice was baptized and confirmed at the Decorah Lutheran Church. She attended country school and graduated from Decorah High School in 1932. Eunice married Truman Kirkeby on June 21, 1937 at the Springwater Lutheran Church. They farmed from 1937-47 with his parents. In 1947, they moved to Hesper Township, where Truman started Kirkeby Welding. Eunice worked part-time at the North Winn School in the lunch program for thirteen years, retiring in 1979. Eunice and Truman moved into Decorah in 1987 and enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center. Eunice loved to bake and was an excellent cook; her specialties were meatballs and apple pie. She was a member of the Hauge Lutheran Church, ALCW and circle. Eunice’s survivors include her two daughters: Cheryl (Jim Fahey) Thompson, Decorah, IA and Elene (Norm) Amundsen, Valparaiso, IN. Five grandchildren: Craig (Nathalie) Thompson, Aldie, VA; Cynthia Thompson, Springfield, IL; Cory Thompson, Valparaiso, IN; Eric (Roxana) Amundsen, Newport News, VA; and Kris (Terry) Lopez, Valparaiso, IN. Four great grandchildren: Cherylyn Thompson, Hannah Lopez, Claire Lopez and Alex Villa, another great grandchild, Scott Thompson, is expected soon from China. One sister: Glorianne Wicks, Decorah, IA. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Truman in1990; one brother: Harold; and two sisters: Joyce Narveson and Gladys Aarhus.
