Eugene "Gene" Huinker

Eugene Huinker, age 86, of St. Lucas, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Traditions Assisted Living in West Union, Iowa, after a long battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 9, 2010, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Nicholas March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Sunday and also on Monday after 9:00 a.m., at the Historical St. Luke’s Chapel in St. Lucas, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home from Fort Atkinson, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Eugene’s survivors include his three children: Arnie (Marilyn) Huinker, Lakeville, MN; Kaye (Chuck) Bassett, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Kurt (Dawn) Huinker, St. Lucas, IA. One son-in-law: Jerry Bentley, Calmar, IA. Ten grandchildren: Jess Bentley, Marshall, MN; Kristin (Mark) Olmstead, Lakeville, MN; Josh (Kristi) Bentley, Lansing, IA; Kari Huinker, Lakeville, MN; Jordan Bentley, Calmar, IA; Bryan Huinker, Lakeville, MN; Jacob Bentley, Calmar, IA; Sloan and Seth Huinker, St. Lucas, IA and Alex Bassett, Cedar Rapids, IA. Four great grandchildren: Tatem Galloway, Tylan “Pickles” Bentley, and Asa Lee Bentley, all of Lansing, IA; and Alexis Olmstead, Lakeville, MN. One sister-in-law: Kathleen Marlow, Cresco, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents: Arnold and Julia (Sloan) Huinker. His wife: Dorothy “Dode” (Sharp) Huinker on September 11, 2008. His daughter: Jane Bentley on October 11, 2009. Two brothers: Louverne (Josephine) Huinker and Joe (Judy) Huinker. One sister: Evelyn (James) Molumby. One brother-in-law: Walter Marlow. One sister-in-law: Ruth “Boop” (Luther) Thompson.
