Esther Beatrice Stoddard

Esther Stoddard, age 90, of Decorah, Iowa died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. Allan Vik officiating. Burial will be in the Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, IA. Friends may call on Friday, March 4, 2005 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home and after 1:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Esther Beatrice Stoddard was born on August 20, 1914 the daughter of Martin and Marit (Hamre) Tveter in Kit Carson, CO. Esther moved with her family to Iowa as a young child and lived in Madison Township. She attended country school and then Decorah High School through her freshman year. She met and married Donald Merton Stoddard and was married on May 31, 1936 at the Madison Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born: Linda and Dean. Esther’s survivors include her daughter: Linda Root & husband Mike, Decorah, IA and son, Dean Stoddard, Greenville, Mississippi. Grandchildren: Tracy Thorsten, Decorah, IA; Kelly Root, Decorah, IA; Stephanie (Mark) Henning, Decorah, IA; Dan (Tara) Stoddard, North Liberty, IA; Jeremy Stoddard, Oxnard, CA. Five great grandchildren: Dylan, Loden & Owen Henning; Ryan Thorsten and Aidan Stoddard.
