Elizabeth "Betty" Kuboushek, age 86, of Spillville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 207 Church St., Spillville, Iowa, with Rev. Thiet Hoang presiding. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the Church. There will be a rosary starting at 2:30 p.m. before the visitation. There will be no visitation prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Elizabeth "Betty" (Moellers) Kuboushek was born on the family farm west of Ossian on September 17, 1939 to Felix and Margaret (Heying) Moellers. She was the youngest of six children. Her older brothers were heading off to war and raising their families when she was a young girl. She learned at a young age what hardship, hard work, and sacrifice were, which influenced the person she became.

She graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1957. She worked part-time at Gunderson Department Store in Ossian during her high school years. After graduation, she worked at Interstate Power Company in Decorah and Ossian. On June 2, 1959, Betty married Leonard Kuboushek of Spillville at St. Francis DeSales Church in Ossian. She then became a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Spillville. They were the parents of Chad (Cathy Schmitt), Michelle (Rod) Lensing, Denise (Tim) Huber, and Gary (Kristi Kleitsch). Dad and Mom farmed together on the Bily Clock farm, rural Ridgeway, for 37 years until they retired in Spillville in 1997. Mom was active in every aspect of the farming operation, especially the dairy, and also helped Dad with the Pioneer Seed Business.

To describe our Mom is easy: She wasn't a quilter, but a patcher; not a gardener, but a farmer. She enjoyed farming and understood it. She was not materialistic, but liked a new outfit and would model it. She was, "Aw, that's good enough", and "that's not necessary". She was a straight shooter, and said it like it was, honest, but kind, no painting a prettier picture than it was. She was a devoted Catholic, always attended weekly Mass and then some. She had her umbrella prayer for all who needed prayers-you were included! She was kind, helpful, and understanding to those in need; taking many to appointments, bringing food, or just listening. She enjoyed the Spillville community; whether helping at a church funeral, baking kolaches for a bake sale, or having the neighborly coffee time, she enjoyed people and visiting. She was an excellent cook and baker: homemade dressing, pies, kolaches, and rolicky were her specialties. She taught many of the grandchildren to bake pies. even grandsons. She was proud of and dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and now many great grandchildren. They all hold a special place in her heart. She accepted life's challenges with grace and dignity; "you can't change it anyway". As she heard over the last months from many, you are "Special" and indeed she was. She influenced many lives and will be deeply, deeply missed.

Betty leaves behind her children and their families: Chad & Cathy Kuboushek, Michelle & Rod Lensing, Denise & Tim Huber, daughter-in-law, Kristi Kuboushek. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include: Brandon & Danielle Kuboushek, Silas, Theo, Felicity, Miriam, Annalise; Justine & Troy Rabbett, Ella, Claire, Lucas, Julia, Charlotte; Ryan & Rachel Kuboushek, Josephine, Elaina, Maren; Allison Kuboushek; Kelly & Devin Franzen, Agnes, Dominic, Henry; Nicole & Steven Landa, Gemma, Bernadette, Jude, Margaret; Matthew Kuboushek; Mitch & Calsey Lensing, Elsie, Oscar, Betty, Polly; Mark & Shantel Lensing, Rose, Henry, Marie, William; Michala Lensing; Keith & Belle Lensing, Felix, Elaine; Garrett & Regan Lensing, Noelle, Jack, Gavin; Morgan & Jake Massman, Gracie, Hank; Nathan Lensing; Lora & Benson Hargens, Parker, Lydia, Mari; Breanne & Sam Knezevic, Evelyn, Gabriella, Clare, John; Elise & Stephen Kesten, Bernadette, Dominic, Benedict, Joseph; Benjamin & Monica Huber, Joanna, James; Luke & Kiley Huber, Milo; Noah & Abigail Huber, Lucy; Easton & Kristina Kuboushek, Knox, Otto; Sawyer & Karli Kuboushek, Banks, Lenni; Kendal Kuboushek & (Fiancé) Cam Chung; Landers & Joclyn Kuboushek; Manning Kuboushek and a few more great grandchildren on the way and her only sister, Margaret Hager.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard Kuboushek, son: Gary Kuboushek, parents, infant great-grandson: John Mark Lensing, father and mother-in-law: James and Rose Kuboushek, brothers and sisters-in-law: Raphael & Esther Moellers, Glen Stuart, Rufus & Betty Lou Moellers, Ireaneus & Catherine Moellers, Robert Hager, Roger & Irene Moellers, Wesley & Judy Kuboushek, and infant sister-in-law, Dorothy Kuboushek.
