Eileen Devine

Eileen Maye Culhane Devine, 97, died on March 1, 2021, at Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa. The Funeral Mass was held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah on Tuesday, March 2 at 2 pm with Fr. Donald Hertges officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney, Iowa. She was a teacher and a librarian who came to Decorah in 1967 to become the Area One Media Center Director until 1975 when it became AEA 1 and moved to Elkader. She felt her greatest blessings were her 62 years of marriage to Francis Paul Devine and the raising of their seven children. She had a strong Catholic faith that sustained her throughout her life. She liked to quilt, read and visit with people. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; her son, Patrick Paul; her parents, James and Helena, and her stepmother, Alice; her sister, Mary Jo; her brother, Jimmy; and most of her brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by Mary Eileen Devine (Jody) Meyer, Decorah; Michelle Devine, Des Moines; Timothy, Sigourney; Francine (Joe) Behounek, Chelsea; Theresa (Eric) Lyon, Toledo; John (Irene) Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene (Trudy) Devine and Dorothy Culhane. She has 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
