Edythe Cekal

January 27, 1925 — February 12, 2016

     Edythe Cekal, age 91, of Spillville, IA died Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.    Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA with Fr. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery at a later date.       There will be visitation on Tuesday after 9:30 a.m. at the church      Edythe Emila Fisher was born on January 27, 1925, the daughter of John G. and Emma (Klimesh) Fisher in Spillville, IA. Edith attended St. Wenceslaus Grade School, Spillville High School, and graduated from Calmar High School in 1942. She was then employed at Hanford MacNider’s in Mason City, IA for three years. Thereafter Edythe attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, IA. Edythe married Victor J Cekal on February 20, 1950 at St Wenceslaus Church. They lived in Spillville in the house built by Victor’s father where they had one daughter, Pamela. Edythe was the secretary/treasurer of the Civic Improvement Association, namely The Inwood in Spillville, from 1975-1992. She also was a member of the Decorah Regional Arts Council and Amateur Iowa Artists. Edythe enjoyed playing bridge, oil painting, golfing, cooking, sewing, tailoring, gardening and traveling.        Edythe is survived by her daughter: Pamela (Stephen) Ehrich, Burileson, TX. Grandson: Benjamin Ehrich, Ft. Worth, TX.. Sister: Clara Swehla, Spillville, IA. Brother: Julian (Sue) Fisher, Pebble Beach, CA.      Edythe is preceded in death by her parents John and Amelia, husband Victor in 1989, sister’s Louise (Jim) Silhacek and Martha (Charles) Falada, Brother-in-law: James Swehla
