Ed Jirak

Ed Jirak, age 76, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Ossian Senior Hospice, in Ossian, IA. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Little Turkey, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Little Turkey. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson, IA, and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Wednesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., on Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in memory of Ed Jirak. Ed is survived by his wife: Helen Jirak, Fort Atkinson, IA. Three sons: Michael (Sarah) Jirak, Waucoma, IA; David (Sarah) Jirak, Warren, MI; and Gene Jirak, Fort Atkinson, IA. Two granddaughters: Andrea (Eric) Dietzenbach, St. Lucas, IA, and Abigail Jirak, Sheffield, IA. Two grandsons: Jordan (Kylie Loesch) Jirak, St. Lucas, IA, and Alex Jirak, Sheffield, IA. One step-granddaughter: Elizabeth Smith, Mt. Pleasant, IA. Two great grandsons: Kaden Jirak and Cooper Dietzenbach, both of St. Lucas, IA. One sister: Vernelle (Wes) Dostal, Decorah, IA. One brother: James (Barbara) Jirak, Fort Atkinson, IA. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Doris & Chuck Frana, Calmar, IA; Henry & Betty Best, Waucoma, IA; Francis & Sue Best, Fort Atkinson, IA; and Mary & Victor Croatt, St. Lucas, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Helen (Kunt) Jirak. His father and mother-in-law: Frank and Emily Best.
