Dr. Wilbur Bigler, age 67, of West Union, Iowa, died on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from injuries in an automobile accident near Solon, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust, 1638 Big Canoe Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Nancy Solomonson presiding. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Friday morning. Wilbur Dennis Bigler was born on August 18, 1944, the son of Elmer and Tilvina (Ellingson) Bigler in Decorah, Iowa. He was baptized September 10, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust. Wilbur graduated from Decorah High School in 1962. He served in the US Army in Vietnam. Wilbur married Beth Gaffney on December 3, 1966, at the Calmar Lutheran Church, they later divorced. He returned and graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1975. Wilbur owned and operated the Bigler Chiropractic Clinic in West Union from 1975 to August 2011. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting deer and duck, fishing and bowling League on Wednesdays. Wilbur also enjoyed vacationing with his family when the kids were younger, taking them to Amusement Parks, Wisconsin Dells and to the outdoors. Wilbur was especially fond of eating Hersey Almond Candy Bars with Diet Coke. Wilbur was a member of the West Union Lions Club and the West Union Chamber of Commerce. Wilbur is survived by his three children: Cindy (Bill) Bergman, Dallas, TX; Mark Bigler, Washington, IA; and Jeanette Bigler, Atlanta, GA. Two sisters: Ethel Ellingson and Ellen (Douglas) Dickman, all of Decorah, IA. Three brothers: Roger (Evelyn) Bigler, George Bigler and David (Colleen) Bigler, all of Decorah, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Tilvina (Ellingson) Bigler. Two brothers: Kermit Bigler in 1969 and Kenneth Bigler in 2005. One brother-in-law: Tom Ellingson in 2005.
