Dorothy Weiand

Dorothy Weiand, age 89 of Calmar, IA, died on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Calmar. The service will also be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/CFOSparishes Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday morning at the church. Dorothy Ann (Kubitz) Weiand was born on February 14, 1931 the daughter of Otto and Alice (Hayes) Kubitz at home in the Winnebago Valley near New Albin, IA. Dorothy attended country school and two years of high school. Years later, she received her GED from Area 1 School in Calmar. She also received her CNA. She worked for Brueckner Drug and French Furniture in Calmar. Dorothy then entered into the career of taking care of others. She worked at Ossian Senior Hospice, Oneota Care Facility, Winneshiek County Public Health Home Care and she also did volunteer service for the hospice program for 44 years. She moved to Wellington Place in 2018. Dorothy was united in marriage to Thomas M. Weiand on June 17, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, IA. After marriage, Tom and Dorothy moved to North Dakota for two years before returning to Iowa. She enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls. She also liked to play cards and take trips to the casino with her nieces and friends. Her greatest times were spent with her family. She especially enjoyed the fun times with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, the CDA and Auxiliary. Dorothy is survived by her children: Gerald (Becky) Weiand, Decorah, IA; Cindy (Bob) Lentz, Spillville, IA; Darryl “Pete” (Lynne Seabrooke) Weiand, Calmar, IA and Tim Weiand, Calmar, IA. Grandchildren: Tina (Gary Morris) Weiand, Ossian, IA and Kendra Hovey, Cedar Falls, IA. Great grandchildren: Kaylee and Tyler Hovey. Sister-in-law: Veronica Heier. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Weiand on January 8, 2005. Parents: Otto and Alice (Hayes) Kubitz. Brothers: William (Lorraine) Kubitz and Richard (Theresa) Kubitz. Sister: Mary Lou (Ferris) Meyer. Sisters-in-law: Eva Ziegler, Katherine Martin, Frances Schumacher, and Theresa as a child. Brothers-in-law: Pete, Nick, John, Joe, Lucas and Frank Weiand.
