Dorothy Rude

Dorothy Rude, age 80, of Decorah, IA, died on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Gundersen Harmony Care Center in Harmony, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the Cresco Community Chapel, 24024 Highway #9 East, Cresco, IA, with Rev. Mike Simiele presiding. Burial will be at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m., at the Church on Thursday morning. Dorothy Jean (Hoffman) Rude was born on March 31, 1935, in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Harold and Caroline (Plear) Hoffman. Dorothy graduated from Decorah High School and attended one year at Luther College. She was married to William Rude on June 26, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Decorah, they later divorced. Dorothy worked as a telephone operator for one year. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting turtles and playing the clarinet. She was an active member of the Cresco Community Chapel in Cresco and enjoyed attending the Grand Family Camp in Clear Lake, IA. She especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children: Robert (Sharon) Rude, Coralville, IA; Allen Rude, Decorah, IA; Susan (Mark) Lenz, Harmony, MN; Karen (Steve) Quam, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Katy & Nicholas Rude, Cory & Darin Rude, David (friend, Brianna Olson) Lenz, Rachel Lenz, Kyle (friend, Stacey Reding) Quam, Heather (Matt) Strathman and Samantha Quam, along with three great grandchildren: Brooke, Elijah and Lily. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Harold and Caroline (Plear) Hoffman. Two Brothers: Robert Hoffman and Harold (Mary) Hoffman Jr.
