Doris Engen

Doris Engen, age 88, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial will be in the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery, Decorah, IA. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the church. Doris Mae Tupy was born June 15,1933 on the family farm in rural Ft. Atkinson to William & Viola (Huber) Tupy. She was baptized, confirmed and attended country school in rural Ft. Atkinson. When Doris was 17, she left the family farm & moved to Decorah, where she met her lifelong friend, Marcella Vsetecka becoming roommates while working at local shops & restaurants. On Sept. 14th 1954 Doris was united in marriage with Gordon Engen at St. Benedicts Church in Decorah. Their union was blessed with 5 children. Doris enjoyed the simple things, hard work, good food, visiting with family & friends, & listening to old time music in person or on the radio & RFD TV. She was a lifelong member of St. Benedicts Church. Doris is survived by her children: Larry (Donna) Engen, Decorah, IA, Dale Engen, Ridgeway, IA, Mary (Ron) Teslow, Decorah, IA, and Gregg (Lisa) Engen, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Jason (Jessica) Engen, Candy (Ryan) Harvey, Whitley Teslow, Kellan O’Shea, Lakin Engen, Kyzer Engen, and Lexie Engen. Great-grandchildren: Ethan, Ally, Isaac, Addison, Karsten, Amelia, and Kolin. Brother: George (Shirley) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA. Special friend: Phillip Severson along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Engen in 2002. Son: Thomas Engen. Grandson: Zachary Wisher. Parents: William and Viola (Huber) Tupy. Brothers: Alvin Tupy , Donald Tupy and Linus (Rose) Tupy. Father and Mother-in-law: Alert and Christine (Melaas) Engen. Sister-in-law: Florence Spilde. Brothers-in-law: Lester (Helen) Engen, Spencer (Agnes) Engen, Merlin (Norma) Engen and Lifelong friend Marcella Vsetecka.
