Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Monday, one hour before the service, at Fjelstul Funeral Home. Doreen Lynn Rovang was born on August 27, 1956 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Reuben O. and Delores J. (Hovden) Rovang. She attended school in Decorah, graduating from Decorah High School with the class of 1975. While in school she sang in the choir and received an award for playing the clarinet. Doreen grew up on the family farm and helped with the chores and other activities that are a part of farm life. Doreen loved horses and had three that she enjoyed riding and rode with the Winneshiek County Saddle Club through areas of the county. Doreen was united in marriage to Gaylord (Lee) Spores on February 16, 1980 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. They later divorced. After high school she worked at K&S, DECO, and Anundsen Publishing. Doreen enjoyed traveling and went on trips to Washington and Vancouver, a couple of cross-country trips with her family, and she also went on a cruise to the Bahamas with her cousin Jenise. Doreen showed pride in the cars that see owned. This was evident by the very slow speed that she drove down gravel roads so not to raise dust or cause chips in the paint. This was humorously noted by some of our neighbors. Doreen lived with her Mom in Decorah and in later years was her caregiver. She was preceded in death by her father Reuben Rovang on November 16, 2004. Doreen is survived by her mother Delores Rovang of West Union, IA; three brothers, six nieces and nephews, and one great-niece: Rodney Rovang of Marquette, IA, Randy Rovang of West Union, his children Nicole, and her daughter Presley, of West Union, Travis of Colorado Springs, CO and Hailey of West Union, Gene Rovang and his wife Jennifer, and their children Jon, Alexia and William, of Iowa City.
