Donis Whalen, age 62, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2012, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Chad Huebner presiding. Burial will be at a later date in the New Hampton Cemetery, New Hampton, Iowa. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Friday and also after 10:00 a.m., on Saturday morning at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway Street, Decorah, IA. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge Donis is survived by her mother: Margaret Whalen, New Hampton, IA. One brother: Michael (Susan) Whalen, East Bethel, MN. One sister: Shelley (Steven) McShane, New Hampton, IA. Special Friend: Sally Bachman, Albia, IA. Seven nieces and nephews: Amber (Raylin) Nevland, Kimberly (friend, Aaron Guck) Whalen, Ryan Whalen, Tony McShane, Nicole (Justin) Klunder, Rebecca (Trent) Zabel, and Andrea (Roberto) Barron. Ten great nieces and nephews: Ashyln Nevland, Ashton, Braden & Brooklyn McShane, Reed & Finnley Klunder, Abigail & Paige Zabel, Isabella & Gavyn Barron. Donis was preceded in death by her father: Donald Whalen in 2006. One niece: April Whalen in 1980. Her grandparents: Jacob & Marjit Jerdee and Leland & Maxine Whalen.
