He married Karla (Hageman) Steffans on April 23, 1977, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa. Don would celebrate fifty years working at Camcar (Stanley Black & Decker) in November. He spent most of his free time mowing St Benedict Catholic Cemetery. Don enjoyed spending his time watching NASCAR and collecting NASCAR collectibles. He enjoyed watching Yellowstone, MASH, and the Andy Griffith Show. Don was an avid collector of John Deere toy tractors as well as making his own. He restored and custom-built many toy tractors with his meticulous and patient hands, some of which were spot lightened and written about in The Toy Farmer magazine. Don found pleasure in riding his motorcycle and giving rides to his five grandchildren. Don loved nothing more than spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He also enjoyed playing a good game of cards over his lunch break at work, as well as a good prank or two. Don will be remembered for his quirky one liners.
