Donald "Donnie" Ondrashek

Donnie Ondrashek, age 73, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, in Decorah, IA. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Monday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a scripture service at 6:00 p.m., on Monday evening at the funeral home. Donald Wenceslaus Ondrashek was born on September 13, 1938, the son of William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek near Fort Atkinson, IA. Donnie graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1956. He married Nancy Flack on October 2, 1965, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Donnie drove truck for Meyer Brothers Construction, Holland Brothers, Henkel Construction, Spencer Construction, Bruening Construction, the City of Calmar and for Bob Humpal Auction Service. The last few years, Donnie worked as a groundskeeper at NICC in Calmar. Donnie enjoyed camping, and visiting with family and friends. He served on the Fort Atkinson Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Donnie is survived by his wife: Nancy Ondrashek, Fort Atkinson, IA. Three children: Dale (Lucinda Frandsen) Ondrashek, Balltown, IA; Michael (April Flett) Ondrashek, Decorah, IA; and Dawn Kraft, Fort Atkinson, IA. Eight grandchildren: Samantha Ondrashek, Cory Ondrashek, Zack Ondrashek, Charles Kirkpatrick, Mercedes Frandsen, Sierra Frandsen, Damian Kraft & Jennifer Kraft. Two great grandchildren: Layla Kraft and Izabell Frandsen. One brother: Edward (Anna) Ondrashek, Spillville, IA. One sister: Dorothy Neuzil, Spillville, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Terry (Jolene) Flack, Walnut Ridge, AR, and Rodney (Julie) Flack, Clermont, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Margaret Schefert, Cedar Rapids, IA; Skyla (Scott) Vargason, Postville, IA; and Colleen Parkman, Richmond, MS. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents: William and Stella (Pavlovec) Ondrashek. One son: Donald Ondrashek in infancy. Two sisters: Agnes Shindelar on Nov. 22, 2009 and her husband, Jerome on Nov. 14, 1993 and Adeline Mihm on Feb. 8, 1989, and her husband, Art on April 20, 1993.
