Dirinda Benzing

Dirinda Benzing, age 73, of Ossian, IA, died on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at her home in Ossian, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019, at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 305 Jessie Street, Ossian, IA, with Rev. David Lenth presiding. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Ossian, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Friday, August 30, 2019, at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 305 Jessie Street, Ossian, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Saturday morning. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Dirinda Kay (Svendson) Benzing was born on December 3, 1945 the daughter of Norman and Ramona (Preuss) Svendson in Decorah, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the Ossian Lutheran Church. Dirinda graduated from South Winneshiek High School. She married Art Van Wey in 1964 and together they had two sons: Richard and Gary. They later divorced. She received her LPN certificate from NICC in Calmar and worked at Postville Hospital for five years. Dirinda married Wayne Benzing on April 18, 1987. She then began working as a custodian for Luther College where she worked for over twenty years until retiring. She loved to paint and also enjoyed quilting. She and Wayne loved their Belgian Horses and enjoyed taking wagon rides. She was a member of Ossian Lutheran in Ossian. Dirinda is survived by her two sons: Richard (Stacy) Van Wey, Navarre, FL, and Gary Van Wey, Ossian, IA. Step-children: Cristy (Andy) Nimrod, Decorah, IA, and Chad (Patty) Benzing, Fort Atkinson, IA. Grandchildren: Joshua & Autumn Van Wey, Kevin & LeeAnn Van Wey; Gavin, Collin & Katie Nimrod; Dustin Herold. Sisters: Connie (David) Rosendahl, Ventura, IA, and Judy (Allan) Kuboushek, Calmar, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Oran (Sylvia) Benzing, Cascade, MT; Arden (Marcia) Benzing, Cambridge, WI; Mary (Tom) Farrell, Spooner, WI; Ruth (Jim) Turney, Gold Canyon, AZ; and Jean (Dennis) Stedman, Fort Atkinson, WI along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dirinda was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Benzing in 2014. Parents: Norman and Ramona (Preuss) Svendson. Brother: Norman Jr. Sisters: Ann Dowell and Janell Davis. Father and mother-in-law: Victor and Orma (Kuhse) Benzing.
