Dick Helgeson

Dick Helgeson, age 71, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be held in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from: 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, Iowa and also on Monday morning from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main St., Decorah, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be given in memory of Dick to the Dick Helgeson Memorial Fund. Dick is survived by his wife: Jan Helgeson, Decorah, IA. Four children: Tim (Cami) Helgeson, Ames, IA; Todd (friend, Misty Maaya) Helgeson, Orlando, FL; Terry (Carrie) Helgeson, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Traci Schmitz, Cedar Rapids, IA. Ten grandchildren: Rick & Jason Helgeson, Gannon & Easton Schmitz, Peyton Helgeson, Emma & Grace Helgeson, Samantha Flickinger, A.J. & Brice Novotny. One brother: Ed (Theresa) Helgeson, Decorah, IA. One sister: June Beer, Cedar Rapids, IA. One sister-in-law: Linda (Dennis) DeBuhr, Waukon, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Bill Keck, Davenport, IA, and Dave (Sarah) Ottesen, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Mary (Kelly) Helgeson. One brother: Norbert Helgeson. Twin granddaughters: Kaylyn and Kelsey Helgeson. One daughter-in-law: Lisa Helgeson on Feb. 13, 2010. His father and mother-in-law: Wes & Odella Keck. One brother-in-law: Ray Beer. One sister-in-law: Marlene Ottesen. One nephew: Jim Helgeson.
