Diana Johnson

Diana Johnson, age 72, of Decorah, IA passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at her home outside of Decorah. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5, 2022, at the Helms Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah. Burial in Phelps Cemetery will be at a later date. Diana was born on July 26, 1950, the eldest girl of 8 children born to Richard and Mabel (Peters) Cline. She grew up in Hopkinton, IA, and graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1968. Diana was united in marriage to Charles Johnson on January 22, 1977. The newlyweds settled in Decorah where they have lived to this day. Diana brought to this marriage, a daughter (Stephanie) and the couple was blessed with another daughter (Andrea) in 1991. Early in the marriage, Diana became an in-home daycare provider for a local family, Mike and Jeanne Casterton. Their 3 children; Angela, Mindy, and Michael, left many fond memories for her and they have always held a special place in her heart. McDonalds opened in Decorah in 1985, and any of the regular daytime customers knew who the short, sassy lady behind the counter was. She was a daytime staple and Manager for the Decorah McDonalds for 30 years before her retirement. She loved watching westerns, gardening, reading cookbooks, and trying new recipes. Some good and some not so good! The good ones would become family favorites. Left to cherish Diana’s memory are her two daughters: Stephanie (Tom) Egeland, Estherville, IA, and Andrea Johnson, Decorah, IA. Her three grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Johnson. Parents: Richard and Mabel Cline. Infant Grandson, and three of her siblings.
