Dennis M. Folkedahl

Dennis M. Folkedahl, age 69, of Clarinda, Iowa and formerly of Decorah and Iowa City, Iowa, died Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Clarinda Treatment Complex in Clarinda following a long illness. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah by Rev. James Glesne. Private family inurnment will be in Union Prairie Cemetery in rural Decorah later in the spring. Visitation begins on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home where the family will greet friends. Dennis Merlyn Folkedahl was born December 2, 1938 In Decorah, Iowa, the son of Norton M. and H. D. Irene (Severide) Folkedahl. He was baptized by Pastor O.G. Fjelstad and confirmed by Pastor I.M. Gjellstad at Decorah Lutheran Church. Dennis attended the Decorah schools and graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1957. He then attended Luther College, Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY and the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force from August 20, 1960 to September 17, 1965, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of A1C. Dennis then lived in Iowa City and was an antique dealer there. He became a resident of the Iowa Veteran's Home in Marshalltown, Iowa where he resided for many years. He was then transferred to the Clarinda Treatment Complex in Clarinda, Iowa on August 15, 2007. He died there on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the age of 69 years. He was preceded in death by his father Norton on January 29, 1980, his mother Irene on May 21, 1988, one brother Dale on December 9, 1965, and two nephews, Russell Folkedahl on July 18, 1987 and Terrance Kubik on April 9, 2001. He is survived by five sisters: Arla Kubik of Decorah, Iowa, Sharon F. Folkedahl of Glendale, Arizona, Lois Lembcke of Saukville, Wisconsin, Colleen (Lloyd) Gossman of Decorah and Diane Lynne Folkedahl of Decorah; two brothers: Nels Folkedahl of Decorah and Vincent (Bev) Folkedahl of Iowa City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
