Delbert "Chub" Winter, age 80, of St. Lucas, IA, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2012, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Delbert “Chub” Winter was born on November 21, 1931, the son of John T. and Philomena “Minnie” (Hackman) Winter on the family farm near Waucoma, IA. Delbert attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas and then moved to Illinois to milk cows. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953-55. He returned from the service and married Ruby Kalishek on October 14, 1957, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. To this union, six children were born: Steve, Ron, Barb, Randy, Gary and Julie. Chub worked for a few years at the Waucoma Feed Mill and then farmed the family farm for many years, where he milked cow, selling them in 1991. He continued to crop farm and help area farmers with their farms, as well as driving bus for the Turkey Valley School District for fifteen years. Chub enjoyed playing cards, golfing, socializing with family and friends, dancing in earlier days with Ruby, as well as playing softball and all sports activities. His greatest joy was his family and was always willing to help them out with anything. Chub was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post #691 and the Jackson Heights Golf Course. Delbert is survived by his six children: Steve (Deb) Winter, Alpha, IA; Ron (Barb) Winter, Oelwein, IA; Barb (Brett) Wall, Delhi, IA; Randy (Deb) Winter, Oelwein, IA; Gary (Karla) Winter, Ossian, IA; and Julie (Troy) Schager, Kasson, MN. Grandchildren: Heather (D.J.) Zajicek, Christopher (fiance, Ashley) Winter, Jenna and Jaedyn Winter; Lucas (Mary) Winter, Tonya (Zach) Goodman and Brianna (Erick Zhuang) Winter; Kelli and Kendra Kregel; Kelsey and Sammy Wall; Matthew, Ashley and Corrine Winter, Sarah, Megan, Jordan, Felisha & Crystal; Chelsea and Nathan Winter; Tyler and Allison Schager. One great granddaughter: Miya Zhuang. Three sisters: Irma Thuente, Festina, IA; Leona Bullerman, Calmar, IA; and Alma Ameling, St. Lucas, IA. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary Lou Winter, Lawler, IA; Verdene (Harvey) Knutson, New Hampton, IA; Lorene Porter, Karlstad, MN and Carole Ann Wiltgen, Cedar Rapids, IA. Duane Carney, Kansas City, MO and several nieces and nephews. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents: John T. and Philomena “Minnie” (Hackman) Winter. His wife: Ruby Winter on May 4, 2006. Father and Mother-in-law: Reuben and Emma Kalishek. One brother: Melvin Winter. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Virgil Thuente, Vincent Bullerman, Irvin Ameling, Lydel & Jane Kalishek; Mary Carney; Vitalis Andera, Roger Schluetter and Guy Wiltgen, Juanita Schluetter, and Vern Porter. One nephew: Larry Wiltgen and one niece: Beverly Thuente.
