David Sutton

David Sutton, age 60 of Decorah, IA, died on March 14, 2021 at his home outside of Decorah. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah, IA. With Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Cards may be sent to his family at: 2141 300th St., Decorah, IA 52101 David V Sutton, born to Barbara Funke Sutton and Vincent Sutton on July 12th, 1960. Dave was a 1978 graduate from North Winneshiek Community School then attended NICC where he graduated as an electrician. His career changed paths to Semi Driving and Blasting for Olson Explosives where Dave worked for 13 years. He then moved on to work for Poet Ethanol Products as a Semi Driver. But, Dave's most rewarding position was being a Side Dump Driver and Heavy Hauler for Bruening Rock Products where he has been for the past three years. Dave loved to fish! He was a "True Fisherman"! Everyone always loved Dave's stories and his stories always grew!! An annual fishing trip to Canada was the highlight of his year with Upper Iowa Canoeing and Fishing being a close second. An annual overseas vacation was disrupted this year due to Covid, so vacation was in Alabama instead. Although the fishing wasn't as fast and furious as Canada, Dave enjoyed the trip so much he was planning future retirement there. Dave also loved to camp, garden, and spend time with his grandchildren and dogs. There were many lessons learned from Grandpa Dave! David is survived by his wife: Suzy. Step-children: Nick (Abbie) Thompson, Strawberry Point, IA; William (Regina) Thompson, Verona, WI and Melissa (Chad) Driscoll, Dubuque, IA. Grandchildren: Nathan Sutton, Carson Clark, Wyatt & Willow Thompson, Kaylen, Tiffany & Shane Thompson, Chloe, Macoy, Dezi & Dax Driscoll. Sisters: Maxine Johnson, Naperville, IL; Susan (Dan) Gallo, Eagan, MN. Brother: Jerry Sutton, Decorah, IA. Father-in-law: Wayne Gossman, Decorah, IA. Brothers and sister-in-law: Robin (Kim) Gossman, Decorah, IA; Kelly (Jim) Shedelbower, Casey, IL; Tony (Diane) Gossman, Decorah, IA along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father: Vincent Sutton. Step-son: Mickey Thompson. Mother-in-law: Vivienne Gossman. Brother-in-law: Mark Johnson.
