David Gerald Jaastad

David G. Jaastad, age 56 of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Private Family Memorial Services will be held at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA by Rev. Marion Pruitt Miller. There will be no visitation. Fjelstul Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. David Gerald Jaastad was born February 10, 1949 in Decorah, IA the son of Gerald H. and Eileen C. (Stortz) Jaastad. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church where he has been a member his whole life. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1967 and graduated from Luther College in 1971. While at Luther, he was a place kicker on the football team where he set numerous school and conference records. Dave was united in marriage with Diane Tollefson of Decorah on February 8, 1986 at First Lutheran Church. To this union one daughter was born, Emily Jane. They were later divorced. He was a self-employed carpenter and woodworker in Decorah for many years. He loved being with his daughter Emily, going hunting and fishing, and being with his two black Labrador dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dave is survived by his daughter, Emily, of Decorah; one brother, Ronald Jaastad of Winona, MN, and nieces and nephews.
