David Fretheim

David Fretheim, age 54, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, at his home. There will be no formal services held at this time. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given in memory of David to the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa, P.O. Box 76, Decorah, IA 52101, (563) 382-0500. David Lyle Fretheim was born on October 23, 1957, the son of Henry Lyle and Phyllis Jean (Bailey) Fretheim in Decorah, Iowa. David was confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. David graduated from Decorah Community Schools and served in the US Army. David operated a saw mill near the Mississippi River before his health forced him to retire. He enjoyed doing woodworking in his home and tinkering with tractors and equipment. David’s survivors include his two sisters: Mary (Jerry) Carris, Des Moines, IA, and Susan (Kevin) Tarrant, Roswell, GA. Two nephews: Ryan and Keenan Tarrant. Five aunts: Ruth (Ken) Nesset, Decorah, IA; Hazel Stortz, Decorah, IA; Jane (Phil) Pape, Spring Hill, FL; Doris (Howard) Schutz, Scottsdale, AZ and Shirley (Lee) Vangsness, Decorah, IA. Three uncles: Stanley (Delores) Fretheim, Ridgeway, IA; Joel Fretheim, Cedar Rapids, IA and Emory (Elaine) Fretheim, Decorah, IA, along with many cousins. David was preceded in death by his mother: Phyllis Jean (Bailey) Fretheim on Sept. 4, 1992 and his father: Henry Lyle Fretheim on Feb. 23, 2009. Two uncles: Rev. Al (Tess) Aleson and Jules Fretheim.
