Daryl Schmitt

Daryl Schmitt, age 60, of Calmar, IA, formerly of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, 201 Main Street in Fort Atkinson, IA. Daryl Linus Schmitt was born on March 28, 1957 to Linus and Veronica (Winter) Schmitt in Decorah, IA. He attended St. John’s Catholic School in Fort Atkinson and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1975. He delivered for Coca Cola for a short time. He also worked at Camcar for a short period of time. He then worked for Midwest Irrigation for thirty-nine years until he was unable to work anymore. Daryl was married to Robyn Kolaas in 2007. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Raiders and traveling to Arizona and Florida. Daryl is survived by his siblings: Judy (Roger) Ott, Fort Atkinson, IA; Sue (Al) Blong, Fort Atkinson, IA; Dale (Norine) Schmitt, Bernard, IA and Gladys (Marvin) Huinker, Calmar, IA. Sister-in-law: Linda Schmitt, Calmar, IA. One niece and ten nephews along with two step-daughters: He was preceded in death by his wife Robyn. Parents: Linus and Veronica (Winter) Schmitt. Older brother: Gary Schmitt and brothers Joseph, George and Patrick all in infancy.
