Darrell Frey

Darrell Frey, age 81, of Decorah, IA, died on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Peter Kowitz presiding. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday morning at the church. Everyone attending are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Memorials may be sent to the family at: 1102 Division St. Decorah, IA 52101 Darrell David Frey was born on March 22, 1939 the son of Lester and Madeline (Stortz) Frey in Spillville, IA. He attended school in Decorah before enlisting with the US Army where he served from 1956 to 1958. After returning home, Darrell and his brother had a welding shop in Waukon, IA. He married Mavis Drievold on November 7, 1970 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Darrell worked for many years at White Farm Equipment in Charles City until they closed. He then worked for Camcar in Decorah until he retired in 2001. Darrell enjoyed watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and Packers. He was a life member of the Decorah V.F.W, Helof Holm Post 1977. Darrell is survived by his wife Mavis. Step-children: Gary (Gail Garvey) Drievold, Richfield, MN and Judy (Raymond) Koshatka, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Denise (Tom) Barber, Erik (Heather) Drievold, Tonya (Tory) Hughes. Great grandchildren: Heidi (Michael) Reed, Hayley (Allen) Massman, Carissa (Jacob) Howe, Mariah Hesse, Megan (Chad) Meyer, Aydian Hankins, Morgan Drievold, Kylah, Kailan, Kendrie and Keegan Hughes. Great-great grandchildren: Braden and Raelyn Massman; Ava and Tristan Reed; Landon Howe. Sister: Shirley (Tom) Ramsey, Cedar Rapids, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Merton Borsheim, Hiawatha, IA; Elaine Slaymaker, Marion, IA; Ron (Sue) Borsheim, Decorah, IA; Janice (Wayne) Engelhardt, Grainger, MN; Donna Frey, Marion, IA; Darlene Stoen, Decorah, IA; Janet Borsheim, Decorah, IA along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lester and Madeline (Stortz) Frey. Grandson: Wade Drievold. Granddaughter: Anita Hesse. Great-great grandson: Carter Howe. Brothers: Jim Frey, Loren Frey and Mick (Diane) Frey. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Verle (Jettie) Borsheim, Elton Borsheim, Susie Borsheim and Dick Slaymaker.
