Darlyne M. Johnson, age 76, of Decorah, Iowa died on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at her home following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 7th, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday morning until 10:30 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, in Decorah. There will be a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. and a VFW Ladies Auxiliary Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Darlyne Madonna (Remke) Johnson was born on November 3, 1929 the daughter of Raymond and Vivian (Gaul) Remke in Decorah, Iowa. Darlyne graduated from Decorah High School in 1948 and worked at Kjome’s Restaurant. She then started working at Northwestern Bell Telephone, working there for thirty years, retiring in 1981. Darlyne married Donald Johnson on May 15, 1950 at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Darlyne enjoyed fishing, playing cards and going to the boat to gamble. She also enjoyed gardening with her sister, Phyllis. Darlyne was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and ladies circle, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and several card clubs. Darlyne’s survivors include her son, Ray Joe Johnson, Decorah, IA; her sister: Phyllis Schimming, McHenry, IL and many nieces and nephews. Two sisters-in-law: Ruth McClurg, Viroqua, WI and Mildred Vick, Decorah, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Gordon Johnson, Marion, IA and Abner (Mary) Johnson, Montgomery City, MO. Darlyne was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond & Vivian Remke; her husband, Donald Johnson on Oct. 31, 2003; her daughter-in-law: Barbara Johnson on April 4, 2000; two brothers: Dean Remke on May 11, 2000 and Dale Remke on Oct. 26, 1999; Five brothers-in-law: Norman Vick, Clinton McClurg, John Schimming, Kenneth and Hartley Johnson; two sisters-in-law: Carolla Johnson and Edith Remke.
