Daniel Mease

Daniel Mease, age 63, of Decorah died on Monday, January 22, 2018 at his home in Decorah after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave, in Decorah, IA. In Lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials sent in Dan's memory to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, IA 52242 Daniel Kevin Mease was born on June 28, 1954 to Jack and Margaret (Steddom) Mease in Winterset, IA. He graduated a semester early from Winterset Senior High School in 1972. After High School, Dan left for Colorado. While there, he learned how to lay brick. He moved back to Winterset and began a career in construction. Dan married Kristi Olson and together they had their daughter Kelsey. They later divorced. Dan moved to Decorah in 1996 and began his own carpentry business, Mease Construction. He built and remodeled many homes around the Decorah area. In the spring of 2014, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and made the decision to undergo experimental treatments with the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. Dan loved to work and was always doing something. He enjoyed spending time in the woods, cutting wood, gardening, reading, traveling, cooking and baking. He was a very social person and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Dan is survived by his daughter Kelsey (fiancé, Alex Hagg) Mease, Decorah, IA. Special friend: Janice Myers, Fort Atkinson, IA. Brother: Jerry (Vicki) Mease, Winterset, IA. Nieces and nephews: Kevin (Wendy) Mease, Cedar Rapids, IA; Jennifer (Doug) Mease, Winterset, IA; Jeff (Chasity) Mease, Des Moines, IA and Jason (friend, Mary Jo Harms) Mease, Huxley, IA along with great nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Margaret (Steddom) Mease. Brother: David Mease.
