Cyril Neuzil

Cyril John Neuzil, age 80 of Spillville, Iowa died　Sunday, May 20, 2018, at his home near Spillville of natural causes.Funeral Mass will be held at　10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2018, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, with Father Robert Gross presiding. The family will greet friends from　4:00 to 7:00 p.m.　Friday, June 1st, at the church and one hour before the funeral mass. The Schluter-Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Cyril was born on　July 11, 1937　in rural Fort Atkinson, Iowa to John and Eleanor (Novak) Neuzil. He was the youngest of 7 children and grew up on the family farm that was settled by his great-grandparents, Jon and Katerina Neuzil. Cyril graduated from Calmar High School and worked on the family farm, eventually buying the farm. Cyril married Rebecca Pecinovsky in 1959 and they lived on the farm and raised beef cattle until 1998 when they built a new home at the edge of Spillville. In addition to farming, Cyril worked on roads with the Carlson Co. out of Decorah, at the White Tractor Plant in Charles City, Camcar Textron in Decorah, ran a quarry for Wiltgen Construction and drove school buses for both Turkey Valley and South Winneshiek School Districts. Cyril was an excellent dance partner, he enjoyed reading the daily paper, listening to the news, tinkering in his shop, going fishing, and playing cards with friends. For many years, he drove Chrysler cars and did most of his own engine work.Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rebecca and five children, Catherine (Dennis) Dietzenbach, Waucoma, Susan (Peter) Schmitt, Fort Atkinson, Steve (Kim) Neuzil, Florida, Lorna Neuzil, and Craig (Sara) Neuzil, Calmar. Eleven grandchildren, Keith (Sally) Dietzenbach, Karla (Lyle) Richard, Andy (Jessica) Schmitt, Willie (Brittany) Schmitt, Ben (Karla) Schmitt, John Schmitt, Amy Schmitt, Troy Schmitt, Andy Westberry, Helen Neuzil and Celia Neuzil. Eight great-grandchildren, Colton, Caleb and Julia Schmitt; Jared and Andrea Schmitt; and Silas, Adam and Aaron Dietzenbach. One sister, Eleanor Jirak and one sister-in-law, Vickie Neuzil.Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Frank (Marlyse), August (Dorothy), Lewis and Anthony Neuzil; and one sister, Justina (Curtis) Crabtree.
