Cora Tangen

Cora Tangen, age, 96 of Waukon, IA, formerly of Decorah, IA, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA, after a long illness. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, IA. Visitation will be on Sunday November 15, 2009, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Monday Cora Patricia (Landmeyer) Tangen was born October 8,1913, to Henry and Clara (Johnson) Landmeyer on the family farm. Cora attended rural country schools and graduated from Decorah High School in 1932. Cora went to Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA, to become a teacher. She taught at rural country schools, St. Benedict’s School, and at North Winneshiek and then later at Sunflower Daycare. Cora married Joseph Tangen on February 17, 1934, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hampton, IA. They farmed in Canoe and Glenwood Townships and in the early 1970’s they moved to Decorah. Joseph died in 1979 and Cora continued working until the early 1990’s. Several years ago Cora moved to an apartment in Waukon to be closer to her family and later moved to Northgate Nursing Home in Waukon. Cora enjoyed doing things with her family and was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church. Cora is survived by two daughters: Iona Farley, Waukon, IA, and Iola Erickson, Duluth, MN. One son: J.C. (Gwen) Tangen, Charles City, IA. Fourteen grandchildren: Gary (Dawn) Farley of Waukon; Cheryl (Hans) Reisgies of San Jose, CA; Mark (Lori) Farley, Cedar Falls, IA; Greg Farley, Lawrence, KS; Larry (Robin) Farley, Denver IA; Dan Erickson Redondo Beach, CA; Jackie (Bryan) Knapp, Saginaw, MI; Alane Erickson, Proctor, MN; Kathy (Mark) Stack, Superior, WI; Brian (Kyle) Erickson, Duluth, MN; Curtis Erickson, Hermantown, MN; Mitch (Barbie) Erickson, North Aurora, IL; Janet (Daniel) Nallen, Duluth, MN; Art Tangen, Albuquerque, NM; and June (Wyn) Kelley, Jefferson City, MO; Twenty one great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Cora was preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Clara (Johnson) Landmeyerher. Her husband: Joseph. Two sons-in-law: William (Bill) Farley and Ben Erickson. One grandson: Bruce Erickson. One sister: Esther Engen.
