     Conley Linderbaum, age 85, of Ossian, IA, died on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at the Ossian Senior Hospice.    Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 305 Jessie Street, Ossian, IA, with Rev. David Lenth presiding. Burial will be in the Springfield Lutheran Cemetery.      Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday and also after 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday morning at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 305 Jessie Street, Ossian, IA,      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ossian Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Ossian, IA 52161 or to Winneshiek County Hospice, 907 Montgomery Street, Decorah, IA, 52101.      Conley Parnell Linderbaum was born on August 3, 1929, the son of Carl and Olga (Knudsvig) Linderbaum in Moneek, IA. Conley was baptized on Sept. 1, 1929, at the Ossian Lutheran Church by H.G. Magelson. He was confirmed on August 6, 1944. Conley moved with his family at a young age to Ossian and graduated from Ossian Public School in 1948. Following graduation, he farmed with his father near Ossian. He was united in marriage to Viola Lien on Feb. 22, 1953, at the Springfield Lutheran Church. Together they farmed for 45 years until they moved into Ossian in 1996, all the years, farming with Farmall or International Harvester tractors. Over the years, Conley served as janitor at the Ossian Lutheran Church. He also did spot checking of crops with ASCS Office and served on the FHA Board.. He received an award for soil conservation for his work strip cropping on the rolling hills of NE Iowa through the Des Moines Register & Tribune Soil Awards Program. Conley enjoyed fishing and being a supporter of the Republican Party, he loved to share his political views and argue his point. His proudest moment was living to see seven generations of Linderbaum’s in his lifetime. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Conley was a lifelong member of the Ossian Lutheran Church.      Conley is survived by his wife: Viola Linderbaum, Ossian, IA. Two children: Dennis (Eileen) Linderbaum, Ossian, IA, and Dianne (Dave) Ameling, Ossian, IA. Four grandchildren: Grant (Angela) Linderbaum, Sara (Derrick) Vagts, Danielle (friend, John Chargo) Ameling, and Jonathan (friend, Hannah Gustafson) Ameling. Six great grandchildren: Brinley, Colton & Kaden Linderbaum, Mitchell, Hanna & Kennedi Vagts. Two sisters: Audrey (Virgil) Birdsell, Ossian, IA, and Elaine Knutson, Ossian, IA. Sisters and brothers-in-law: Celia (Harold) Stoen, Highlandville, IA; Helen Thune, Davenport, IA; Marlys Lien, Decorah, IA; Ray (Aurora) Lien, Orlando, FL, and Harold (Janice) Lien, Rochester, MN, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.      Conley was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Olga (Knudsvig) Linderbaum. His father and mother-in-law: Elmer and Grace (Borness) Lien. One great granddaughter: Brooke Linderbaum. Three brothers-in-law: Howard Knutson, Dean Thune and Robert “Bob” Lien.
