Colleen Hjerleid

Colleen Hjerleid, age 85, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, IA Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the Helms Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah with Rev. Peter Kowitz presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday. Memorials may be to the Decorah Lutheran Church in memory of Colleen. Colleen Alvina (Stull) Hjerleid was born on July 7, 1936, the daughter of Emery and Mable (Ballhorn) Stull. She was united in marriage to Harold Hjerleid in 1976. Colleen loved gardening and taking care of Harry, the love of her life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Colleen was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and her faith was very important to her. She is survived by her son Phillip (Diane) Bennett. Niece: Heidi (John) Reihl. Grandson: Joshua along with Oakley the wiener dog whom she loved to hug. Colleen was preceded in death by her husband: Harold. Daughters: Sherril and Bridget. Parents: Emery and Mable Stull. Brothers: William and Harlan Stull. Sisters: Laura and Gilberta.
