Clarence “Clem” Reicks, age 76, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, IA. with Rev. David Beckman presiding burial of ashes will be at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery in Ft. Atkinson, IA Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home Chekal Chapel in Ft. Atkinson from 4:00 – 8:00 with a rosary at 5:00 and a scripture service at 7:00 Wednesday night there will also be visitation after 10:00 at the funeral home Thursday morning Clarence (Clem) James Reicks was born on May 15, 1933, to Clement and Johannah (Drilling) Reicks in Ft. Atkinson, Iowa. He attended St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from Ft. Atkinson High School in 1953. Clem pitched on semi pro baseball teams and Northeast Iowa teams. He married Phyllis Roe and was later divorced. He worked for Myer Brother Construction in Ft. Atkinson for 26 years, Duzenburg Construction in Clear Lake and C.A. Powley Construction from E. Peoria, Il, and owned and operated The Zipper in Festina, IA. Clem enjoyed playing baseball and hunting. Two years ago Clem moved into the Aase Haugen home in Decorah. Clem’s survivors include his two daughters: Nancy Kiflemariam and Pam Reicks, both of Phoenix, AZ. One son: Mike (Cathy) Reicks, Festina, IA. Five grandchildren: Ariam and Aaron Kiflemariam, Levi Reicks, Emily and Brad Reicks. Two sisters: Mary (Daniel) Moser, Ft. Atkinson, IA, and Eleanor Kirby, Baltimore, MD. One brother: Melvin (Shirley) Reicks, Davenport, IA. Clem is preceded in death by his parents: Clement and Johannah (Drilling) Reicks. Two brothers: Bill (Mary Jo) Reicks and Ervin (Elaine) Reicks. One sister: Mary Rose in infancy. One brother-in-law: Richard Kirby.
