Clara Swehla, age 93, of Spillville, IA passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Mass of Chistian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be sent to Greg: 5355 Petersburg Rd. Petersburg, KY, 41080. Clara was born on March 14, 1928 the daughter of John and Emma (Klimesh) Fisher in Spillville, IA. She attended school at St. Wenceslaus and public school in Spillville before graduating from Calmar High School in 1946. Clara married James Swehla on June 2, 1947. Together they had one son: Gregory. Clara worked for the Spillville Locker for a short period of time. The majority of her working career was doing the bookkeeping for Swehla Oil Company, which she and her husband ran for many years. Clara was president of the Legion Auxiliary in 1949. She enjoyed shopping, gardening and bowling. She was proud to have carried a 196 average. Even with her disability, she always kept her yard in immaculate condition. Most of all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. She is survived by her son: Gregory (Marcia) Swehla of Petersburg, KY. Grandson: Nathaniel (Azurdi) Swehla. Sister-in-law: Susan Fisher of Sacramento, CA Clara is preceded in death by her parents John and Emma. Husband: James. Sisters: Louise (Jim) Silhacek, Martha (Charles) Falada, Edythe (Victor) Cekal. Brother: Dr. Julian Fisher.
