Clara Kalec, age 100 of Spillville died Monday September 26, 2005 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday September 30 at 11:00 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville by Rev. Donald Hawes with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Balik Funeral home in Spillville with a scripture service at 5:00 and a rosary at 6:00 and there will also be visitation at the church on Friday, after 10:00. Clara Mildred (Wagner) Kalec was born May 4, 1905 to Frank and Mary (Pecinovsky) Wagner on the family farm near Protivin, Iowa. Clara attended the country school near her home. Clara married Louis Kalec on October 5, 1927 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, Iowa. Three children were born to this union; Dorothy, Richard and Raymond. They farmed near Spillville and moved to town. In October of 1995 Clara moved to the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Clara was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Clara enjoyed gardening, handwork and raising chickens, but her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren. Clara is survived by her daughter; Dorothy (Robert) Walters of Mason City, IA. Two sons: Richard (Etsuko) Kalec of Palm Bay FL and Raymond (Judy) Kalec of Calmar. IA. Eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. One brother: Adolph Wagner of Decorah, IA and Three sisters-in-law: Ursula Wagner of Protivin, IA. Angeline Wagner of Spillville, IA and Gladys Kalec of Decorah, IA. Clara was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers; Frank and Bill Wagner and two sisters: Emma Horn and Mae Wagner.
