Cindy Ballard, age 50, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at her home following a short courageous fight with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther College Campus in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Amy Zalk Larson officiating. The family will greet friends after 10:00 a.m. prior to the memorial service. It was Cindy’s wishes to be cremated. Cynthia “Cindy” Lea (Hamilton) Ballard was born on January 27, 1958, the daughter of Charles William and Rosanna Lea (Hollingsworth) Hamilton, in Sigourney, Iowa. Cindy graduated from Sigourney High School in 1976 and attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Cindy traveled the United States for a few years and then lived in Washington, Iowa for twenty years. In 2000, Cindy moved to Decorah and married Gary Ballard on July 13, 2001 at Dunning Springs, in Decorah. Cindy managed the Farmer’s Market for the past eight years, ran her own cleaning business and worked at Luther College as a custodian. Cindy enjoyed gardening, watching her children participate in sports, and above all, to spend time with her children and her family. Cindy is survived by her husband: Gary Ballard, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Hailey Doughty, LaCrosse, WI. One son: Marshall Doughty, at home in Decorah, IA. One step-daughter: Andrea (Tad) Hunt, Washington, IA and one step-son: Ian Ballard, Decorah, IA. Two step-grandchildren: Ethan and Elyse Hunt. Half-brother: Dan Hamilton, Sigourney, IA. Her mother-in-law: Louise Ballard, Washington, IA. Two brothers-in-law: Mark (Cindy) Ballard, Decorah, IA and Richard (Cindy) Ballard, Iowa City, IA, and the father of Hailey and Marshall, Chuck Doughty, Washington, IA. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Rosanna Hamilton. One daughter: Kahli Doughty on October 8, 1983.
