Christine Beatta Bruvold

Christine B. Bruvold, age 91, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, by Rev. Kim W. Smith, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 12:00 P.M. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Christine Beatta Bruvold was born October 24, 1915 in rural Allamakee County, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Bemelia (Aure) Sorum. She attended country schools in Allamakee County and graduated from Waukon High School. She was united in marriage with Lester Kenneth Bruvold on August 21, 1963 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1997 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Following her graduation from High School, Christine taught in Allamakee and Winneshiek County Country Schools for nine years. She moved to California and worked as a secretary in San Francisco and later in Minneapolis. Christine returned to Decorah and worked as a teller and bookkeeper for the Decorah State Bank for fifteen years. After her marriage she and Lester farmed together for many years in Glenwood Township. Christine was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, WELCA, the Gideon’s Auxiliary and her church circle. She enjoyed researching her family history and even published a book on the genealogy of the Aure family. She and Lester enjoyed traveling, including two visits to Norway. Christine became a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home on February 5, 1997. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Loretta Sorum and Lillian Bruvold, both of Decorah; several nieces and nephews, Ordell (Bonnie) Sorum of Decorah, David (Mary Lou) Sorum of Decorah, Jerry (Irene) Sorum of Medford, MN, Ardys (Donn) Johnson of Faribault, MN, Mary Jean Kolsrud of Belle Plaine, MN, Dwight (Melinda) Seegmiller of Hills, IA, Stacy (Dan) Knight of Decorah, Harlan (Jane) Bruvold of Hortonville, WI, Paul (Sue) Bruvold of Decorah, Lila Smith of Algona, IA, Diane (Carl) Thompson of Hastings, MN, Gary Jones of DeForest, WI, Mark (Diane) Jones of Grand Forks, ND, and Patty Jones of DeForest, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Andrew Sorum, two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Inez and Orlie Seegmiller and Grace and Blaine Jones; one brother-in-law, Harris Bruvold and two nephews, Orval Bruvold and Dale Jones.
